Year 7 and 8 Netball Season

Miss Andrews’ report on the year 7 and 8 netball season-

The year 7 and 8 girls had a fantastic netball season. Each individual student has demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm and commitment throughout all training sessions as well as matches. Their hard work and dedication have given them some great results!

At the beginning of the season the girls earned their first victory against Gosfield School with a fabulous score line of 23-1, this was the first time the A team (a mixture of under 12 and 13 students) had the opportunity to play together as a team, Beanie Spain and Katie Buckmaster proved to be a threat to Gosfield in the defending D with their fabulous marking and interception, Molly Steggles also became a threat in the attacking D with her shooting which was on top form! This match was the first of many successful games played throughout the season for the A team including victories against rivals Thetford Grammar School with a final score of 24-6 and a huge win over South Lee 18-8. Midseason the A and B teams travelled to St Felix School for triangular tournament with Brandeston Hall. The girls played some fantastic netball, the A team bet St Felix A’s and lost to Brandeston Hall A’s and the B team bet St Felix B’s and drew with Brandeston B’s.

The last match of the season was played at Finborough against Barnardiston School; this proved to be a close and intense game. Finborough’s wonderful centre court play meant that with the help of Eloise long, Darcy Cunnell and Alex Parke the ball was passed toJasmine Richford in the attacking D, with managed to score several goals! Laura Castellot scored the winning goal from the edge of the D, just seconds before the final whistle, to make the final score 8-7 to Finborough.

Well done for a fantastic season girls, you have all improved massively and should be proud of yourselves.

All the girls would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Andrews for a wonderful season and being a fantastic coach!

Xanthe says- It was well fun and enjoyable to play. Emily said- I really enjoyed playing and would love to do it again next year, I also think we played very well as a team. A couple of girls agreed that the improvement level went up throughout the season and everyone made a huge effort in our last game. Alex say- I enjoyed it and would happily play again!
